Below are a few tips:
-When lifting, squat to pick items off the floor rather than bending over.
-Instead of twisting your back in an attempt to collect items, place items within your reach.
-When sitting, rather than hunching forward; flush your back against your chair, Keep your shoulders square, your knees at same level with your hips or slightly above and keep your feet flat on the ground.
-Sleeping positions: depending on the position you adopt while sleeping it’s important to ensure the back muscles are relaxed while asleep.
-When getting off the bed, turn to your sides first; then using the arm above, support yourself to slowly sit up.
-For people that prefer lying on their sides; ensure you have a pillows under your head, between your arms and legs.
-For people that prefer lying on their backs; ensure you have a pillow under your knees and a little support underneath the ridge of your neck.
-For people that prefer lying on their stomach; ensure you have a relatively flat pillow underneath your abdomen, ankles and no pillow under the neck region. NOTE that this position is the most stressful for the back and neck region and most times people are advised against lying in this position
