On August 18th, 2024, the Trauma International Foundation (TCIF) organized a blood drive in Christ Embassy Abule-Egba AA1 Group Church, Lagos, Nigeria to help address the critical shortage of blood supplies. The event was a huge success, with over 35 church members coming out to donate blood.
The blood drive was held at the Christ Embassy Abule-Egba church premises from 11 AM to 5 PM. It was organized in partnership with the Lagos State Blood Transfusion Service (LSBTS), who provided the necessary medical equipment and personnel to collect, test, and store the donated blood safely.
Upon arrival, donors were first registered and had their vital signs checked to ensure they met the eligibility criteria. They were then guided through the blood donation process, which involved filling out a medical questionnaire and having a small sample of blood drawn for testing. The actual blood donation took around 8-10 minutes per person.
In total, the blood drive collected 22pints of blood from the donorsto potentially save 66 lives.
The collected blood was immediately transported to the LSBTS storage facility, where it will be processed, tested, and made available to hospitals and medical centers across Lagos State. This blood will go a long way in saving lives and supporting critical medical procedures that require blood transfusions.
Esteemed Pastor Korede Peters, the group pastor of Christ Embassy Abule-Egba, expressed his delight at the overwhelming response from the members. "We are incredibly proud of our church members who came out in large numbers to donate blood. This is a true testament to the spirit of compassion that exists here. We will continue to organize blood drives to support the vital need for blood supplies in Nigeria."
The Christ Embassy Abule-Egba blood drive was a shining example of how a faith-based organization can leverage its reach and resources to make a tangible difference in the lives of the people it serves. The organizers, donors, and supporting medical staff deserve commendation for their selfless efforts in this noble endeavor.
