What is the first aid treatment for a dislocation?

Bone and Joint injuries can occur. Sprains occur when excessive force or abnormal motion stretches a joint beyond a normal degree. The result of a sprain is pain, swelling, and even bruising.  An X-ray is mandatory to rule out a fracture.

First aid care includes:

Ensure the scene is safe

Apply gauze or a dressing to any open wounds.

Apply an ice pack to the injured area for up to 20 minutes.

First aid alone may not suffice thus, encourage further evaluation by a health care provider and avoid the use of the injured part.
