Every year, blood transfusion and blood products help save millions of lives; blood transfusion has an important, life-saving role in maternal and childcare and during emergency response to disasters. Blood transfusion facilitates complicated medical and surgical procedures and helps patients with life-threatening illnesses or injuries live longer and with a better quality of life. 

Blood Donors save lives every day by giving of themselves. There is a need for committed, year-round blood donation campaigns to maintain adequate supplies.

There is still a shortage of donors in many countries, so blood donation campaigns are vital for these countries to raise awareness of blood donations and thereby increase supplies to save as many lives as possible.

Hence, the reason it is necessary to raise wider awareness that blood donation is a humanitarian action that benefits society as a whole and that only, voluntarily unpaid blood donors can ensure a sufficient supply through regular donations and achieve self-sufficiency of blood at a national level.
